Hobart womens international tournament

WTA Hobart International

Held at the picturesque Domain Tennis Centre in Hobart, the WTA Hobart International forms a key part of the Australian Open Series. Since 1994 the event has served as the springboard tournament that has launched many successful careers such as Kim Clijsters, Flavia Pennetta, and Petra Kvitova. It has also seen many young Australians hone their craft on-court, including Samantha Stosur, Jarmila Wolfe, Alicia Molik and Casey Dellacqua.

The event is a central focus of tennis in Tasmania, and comes together due to the hard work and combined efforts of all tiers of government, key bodies such as Tennis Tasmania, Tennis Australia, Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Tennis Officials Australia (TOA) as well as a fantastic team of local volunteers from clubs around the state or just keen tennis players generally.

Year round preparations culminate in a showcase of elite female tennis played out on the blue plexi-cushion courts of the Domain Tennis Centre each January. Once finals have been contested, players then progress to prepare for the Grand Slam in Melbourne.
